ALFRED, NY -- The Alfred University softball team picked up its first Empire 8 Weekly recognition as junior captain
Jessica Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) was named the Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Wilcox pitched six complete games in six days, recording 34 strikeouts and allowing only 15 earned runs (2.46 ERA) in California. She finished the week 3-3, with one loss coming to #14 Pomona-Pitzer. Wilcox threw a complete game against the ranked opponent, allowing only two runs and recorded three strikeouts. She surpassed 200 career strikeouts on Wednesday against Cal Lutheran in the opening game of the doubleheader with eight and then she totaled four in the nightcap when she came in for relief. Her eight strikeouts is a season-high. She totaled 34 during the trip and is now at 220 on her career.

Alex Spicer (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post)Â of the Alfred University men's track & field team. Spicer also earned Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Wilcox and the Saxons will next head to face non-conference Keuka College on Saturday, March 23 in a doubleheader with the first game at 1PM and the second around 3PM.
