ALFRED, N.Y. -- The Alfred University football team placed one player on the Empire 8 Weekly Awards as first-year James Jones III (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) was named the Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday as made official in an announcement from Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro.

Jones's biggest play was a blocked field goal attempt that was picked up by teammate, Ryan Elliot (Northport, NY/Northport) as he returned it 91 yards for the Saxons' fourth touchdown of the game. Jones also picked off a pass from Hartwick College that he returned four yards in the Alfred University home win, 34-7. He also tacked on four total tackles with two of them being solo performances.

Jones was joined by men's soccer's Saif Alseyofi (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia/AQS) as the recipients of the Empire 8 Weekly Awards as Alseyofi was named the Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Jones and the Saxons will next close out their home games with a 1 p.m. game against Utica College on Saturday, November 2. Saturday is also part of the Alfred University Athletics Hall of Fame Weekend.
