ALFRED, NY -- First-year goalkeeper Ben Middlemiss (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) of the Alfred University men's soccer team was named the Empire 8 Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon in an announcement by Associate Commissioner, Joe Venniro. 

Middlemiss helped the Saxons go 1-1 on the week with a big win over Houghton College on Saturday. He faced a total of 16 shots on the week and made six saves with five against Elmira College.

He is joined by football's Nick Milgate (Hilton, NY/Hilton) as the Empire 8 Football Defensive Player of the Week and swimming & diving's Lauren Serotta (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) as the Empire 8 Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week.

Middlemiss and the Saxons will next host Utica College at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 26 for their Saxon-for-Saxon game as well as Senior Day.
