Box Score DALLAS, TX – The Alfred University women's soccer team (1-1, Empire 8 0-0) wrapped up its Saxon Nation trip to Dallas, TX on Sunday evening with a 3-0 loss to the University of Texas-Dallas.
Â
The Saxons fell behind 2-0 during the first half of the game despite two saves from first year
Makenzie Cashmer (Weedville, PA/Elk County) between the pipes.
Â
AU looked to bounce back early coming out of the locker room in the second half when first year
Karah Landries (Angelica, NY/Genesee Valley) ripped a shot on goal. However, the attempt was quelled by the UT Dallas keeper who went on to blank the Saxons. Landries and
Amanda Guariglia (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) had two more opportunities down the stretch, but the defense blocked the shots to turn them away.
Â
"I thought our girls competed for the entire 90 minutes," Head Coach
Craig Yanni said. "We a few breakdowns defensively that cost us. UT-Dallas is a good team and truly show us what we have to work on to compete with the top teams in our conference."
Â
The Comets completed their 2017 slate at 16-4, before falling to Mary Hardin-Baylor during the American Southwest Conference finals.
Â
Yanni went on to add, "Overall I think the team showed very well especially taking into consideration that we didn't have Emily [Wright], Lexi [Riffelbach] and Natalie [O'Brien] tonight."
Â
Cashmer wrapped up the game with three saves over 90 minutes of play.
Â
The Saxons will return home following the weekend trip to Dallas to take on Hilbert College in Yunevich Stadium on Wednesday, September 5 at 7PM. AU defeated Hilbert 2-0 during the 2017 season.
