Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Saxons Fall to #6 University of Rochester

ALFRED, NY –The Alfred University men's soccer team hosted #6 University of Rochester on Tuesday evening. The Saxons (2-6, 1-0 Empire 8) played a hard fought game but eventually fell to the Yellowjackets by a score of 5-1.

UR was able to get on the board early with a strike from Anurag Dwivedi, but AU responded when Cody Cronmiller (Livonia, NY/Livonia) set up Alexander Tostanoski (Corning, NY/ Corning-Painted Post) with a beautiful header in front of the net, which Tostanoski headed in to tie the game at one all.

From there on out, the Yellowjackets proved to be tough to handle with a goal in the 29th minute. They also cashed in on a penalty kick in the 30th minute to make it 3-1, which is where the score stayed heading into the half. UR added two more goals in the 50th minute and the 79th minute to secure the 5-1 victory. Goalkeeper, Joe Gonzalez (Marion, NY/ Marion) notched four saves for the Saxons.

"We started off a little slow, especially in the first 20 minutes. Once we got into the pace of the game we were playing well. We were a goal down but we were able to get the goal back, then I think a little ball watching on our part allowed them their second goal. We went into the half down 3-1, due to what I thought was a dubious penalty decision. The team fought really hard in the second half and I'm really happy with the way the boys played. I just think that a couple mental errors caused the score to be 5-1 but I'm really, really happy with the play tonight," Head Coach Tracy Blake said.

The Saxons will be back on the road this Saturday for an Empire 8 matchup with Stevens, beginning at 3PM.
