DELHI, NY -- The Alfred University men's tennis team (2-8, 2-3 Empire 8) fell 4-5 to the Hartwick Hawks in Empire 8 play on Saturday afternoon.
The Saxons jumped out to an early lead following doubles play despite the Hawks earning the first win at #3 doubles. Junior
Peter Smock (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh) and senior
Mike Wisniewski (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville East) knotted the match up, taking the win 8-7 (7-4). Senior
Kevin Volz (Olean, NY/Olean) and first year
Ryan Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) broke the tie, taking a win 8-7 (7-4).
The Hawks took back the advantage when they took wins at #5 and #4 singles. Volz brought the Saxons back with a 6-4, 6-1 win at #2 singles before Hartwick took home the win with wins at #1 and #6 singles.
Wisniewski closed out the match with a win at #3 singles by downing his opponent 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).

The Saxons remain on the road when they travel to St. John Fisher on Tuesday to take on the Cardinals at 4PM.
