Saxons Cruise Past The Highlanders in Regular Season Home Finale

Empire 8 Play of the Week

ALFRED, NY – Senior Jake Lynch (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) had eight points (six goals, two assists) as the Alfred University men's lacrosse team defeated  visiting Houghton College, 19-2 at Yunevich Stadium in Empire 8 action.
 
The Saxons 8-5, 4-1 Empire 8) had a big day from first-year Cale Donegan (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) as he contributed with four points (two goals, two assists). Senior David LaSpina (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder), junior Joe Fornataro (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and first-year Dalton McCumber (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) also had two goals each. Senior Samuel DiRisio (Prattsburgh, NY/Penn Yan) and first-year Jake McNaney (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) each chipped in a goal while junior Zach Landrigan (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) and first-years Anthony DeMott (Long Island, NY/Half Hollow Hills West) and Jon Waugh (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) each recorded their first collegiate goals to round out the scoring for Alfred.
 
"It's always good to pick up a conference win. We did a great job on face-offs that led to a lot of possessions and a lot of shots," Head Coach Jason Lockner said. "We were able to run our offense and do great things out there and the guys did what they needed to do today."
 
Sophomore Garrette Briggs (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) set a new career-high in ground balls as he finished with 18. LaSpina chipped in with nine ground balls. Sophomore Jordan Lockridge (Albany, NY/The Albany Academies) and first-year Jeremiah Kinner (Bath, NY/Haverling) each had a team-high three caused turnovers.
 
Briggs had a perfect day in the face-off circle, going 24-for-24, which ties the Empire 8 record for most face-offs won in a game. This also marks a career-high i face-offs won for Briggs.
 
Senior goalkeeper Drew Gardner (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) earned the win in net, making one saves in 16:33 of action. Senior goalkeeper Chris Doktor (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) finished out the first half in net, making two saves. Sophomore Ben Yonko (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) entered during the third period of action while junior goalkeeper Brandon Smith (Queens, NY/The Governor's Academy) entered during the fourth quarter of action, making three saves.
 
The Saxons hit the road to take on #14 Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, April 21, at 12 PM in an Empire 8 showdown.
