ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team (0-2, 0-0 Empire 8) fell to RIT 9-0 on the road Monday afternoon to open their official matches for the spring season.
 
The Saxons fell behind 3-0 after doubles play despite graduate Kevin Volz (Olean, NY/Olean) and first-year Ryan Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) clawing their way to an 4-8 decision.
 
Junior Peter Smock (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh) was able to battle to a 1-6, 2-6 finish while senior Mike Wisniewski (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville East) took three games from his opponent at #3 singles 3-6, 0-6.
 
"With this being our first official match, I feel as if we took a lot away from it," Head Coach Mike Graham said. "The younger guys got some experience. This match sets us up well moving into conference play."
 
AU travels to Oswego, NY on Saturday to take on the Lakers of Oswego State at 3PM.
