Saxons Drop Narrow Defeat at Oswego, 5-4
OSWEGO, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team (0-3, 0-0 Empire 8) fell to non-conference opponent Oswego State 5-4 on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Saxons trailed 2-1 following doubles play despite earning a win at #1 doubles from the duo of senior
Mike Wisniewski (Buffalo, NY/Wiliamsville East) and junior
Peter Smock (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh), 8-5.

AU bounced back in singles play taking wins at #1, #2 and #3 singles from senior
Kevin Volz (Olean, NY/Olean), Smock and Wisniewski, respectively. Volz dominated in his match, earning a 6-1, 6-4 decision. Smock made his way by Chris Gayvert, winning 7-5, 6-1 while Wisniewski dropped the first set 3-6 before recovering 6-4, 6-4.

Despite success at the top of the lineup, the Saxons fell at #4, #5 and #6 singles.

"With it being such a tight match, I got to see how far some of my players could push themselves," Head Coach
Mike Graham said. "
Peter Smock had a great comeback in the first set after trailing 2-5.
Mike Wisniewski also had a comeback after dropping the first set. They both dug deep and pulled out fantastic wins."

The Saxons open conference play on Wednesday when they travel to Houghton to take on the Highlanders at 4PM.
