Saxons Fall at Home to St. John Fisher in Empire 8 Action

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team fell to visiting St. John Fisher College Tuesday evening 78-50 at the Galanis Family Arena.
 
The Saxons (2-18, 0-11 Empire 8) were paced by sophomore guard Jamie Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) with 11 points and five rebounds while junior guard Katlyn Boland (New York, NY/A. Phillip Randolph) finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
 
The Cardinals opened up the game scoring four unanswered points before Wilcox knocked down both of her free=throw attempts. First-year guard Lyndsey McCoy (Middleburgh, NY/Middleburgh Central) tied things up with a jump shot. Fisher tried to gain a lead on Alfred but the Saxons were able to keep it a one possession game after one quarter, 11-9.
 
The teams traded baskets throughout the second quarter of play before Wilcox drove the lane with 4:49 to go before halftime to extend the lead to three to make it 20-17. Fisher was able to gain a three point lead of their own with a jumper from Caroline Robertson to make it 23-20. Alfred was able to regain the lead before half as first-year guard Chloe Kottwitz (Bolivar, NY/Bolivar-Richburg) converted on both of her free throw attempt to make it 24-23 in favor of the Saxons.
 
The Cardinals were led by Robertson with 20 points and nine rebounds.
 
The Saxons hit the road this weekend to take on Stevens Institute of Technology this Friday, February 9 at 8 PM.
