Alfred Falls to Brockport in OT

BROCKPORT, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team fell to host The College at Brockport Wednesday afternoon in overtime, 7-6, at Bob Boozer Field.
 
The Saxons (1-1, 0-0 Empire 8) were led offensively by senior attackman Jake Lynch (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) as he finished with four points (three goals, one assist). Alfred also got goals from junior attackman Joe Farnataro (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena), sophomore midfielder Peyton VanBibber (Canton, NY/H.C. Williams) and first-year midfielder Zack Gibaud (Greece, NY/Greece Athena).
 
VanBibber scored the lone goal in the first quarter of action as Lynch was able to set him up at the 11;24 mark. Alfred turned on the scoring in the second quarter as Gibaud, Fornataro and Lynch score three unanswered goals in just over a three-minute span. Gibaud's goal marks the first of his collegiate career. Zack Cook was able to get the Golden Eagles on the board with 6:55 to go until halftime. Lynch responded to make it 5-1. Curtis Raymond was able to cut into the deficit to make it 5-2 going into halftime.
 
Lynch continued his hot shooting going into the third quarter, scoring his third goal to make it 6-2 at the 9:12 mark. Brockport was able to find some offense of their own in the second half as they scored four unanswered goals including the game tying goal with 7:12 left in regulation by Patrick Sheridan. The game went into extra minutes where Liam O'Connor was able to find the back of the net.
 
The defense was led by junior attackman Anthony Riccotilli (Cortland, NY/Cortland) and junior long-stick midfielder Frank Gavigan (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown) with two caused turnovers apiece. Sophomore midfielder Garrette Briggs (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) led the way in groundballs with six while Lynch had four.
 
Briggs also won 10 face-offs (out of 18).
 
Senior goaltender Drew Garnder (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) went the distance in net, making 15 saves on 22 shots faced in the loss. Dallas Meyers earned the win for Brockport as he made eight saves on 14 shots faced.
 
The Saxons hit the road next week as they travel to Southern Western University in Georgetown, TX to take on Trine University on March 5 at 5 PM.
