SaxonTV YouTube Recap | Empire 8 Play of the Week

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's basketball team made the short trek across the street to Alfred State College to face off against Bryant & Stratton College of Rochester. The Saxons (2-0, 0-0 Empire 8) dominated on their way to a 90-70 win over the Bobcats.

AU got off to a slow start, going down 8-4 early on before evening the score at 20 all with 12:39 to play in the first half. The Saxons picked things up from that point on scoring 12 unanswered to take a 32-20 lead. Alfred continued to pile on the points in the later stages of the first half to take a commanding 55-35 lead into the locker room.

The Second half was more of the same with Alfred extending its lead up to as much 32 points at one time. The score allowed for all 17 Saxons to play minutes in this one on their way to the victory.

Dom LeMorta (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) led the Saxon scoring with 16 points. Sam Dagon (Hornell, NY/Hornell) chipped in with 12 points while Riley Spingler (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) had 10. Scotty Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) led AU with eight assist. Elliot Bowen (Salamanca, NY/Ellicottville) grabbed seven boards.

"Great effort one through 17 tonight," Head Coach Russell Phillips said. "Something that we've been preaching is making sure that every day everyone is ready to go so it was nice to get all 17 guys into the game tonight and I think 16 of them scored so pretty well rounded team effort tonight."

Following this game, Alfred State College faced off against Bryant & Stratton College of Buffalo. All four teams will make their way over to Terry S. Galanis Family Arena tomorrow to play. Alfred will matchup with Bryant & Stratton of Buffalo at 4PM following the game between Alfred State and Bryant & Stratton of Rochester which begins at 2PM.
