ALFRED, NY -- For the second time this season, junior outside hitter Amber Smith (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) of the Alfred University women's volleyball team earned Empire 8 Player of the Week as made official in an announcement Monday afternoon.

Smith had a breakout day for the Saxons as she hit a whopping .524 off of 42 attacks with 23 kills and only one error on Wednesday night. She helped the Saxons defeat Houghton College for the first time in 27 years with her 23.0 points as she tallied a double-double with her 10 digs. Smith also added a set assist on the evening.

She first earned Empire 8 Player of the Week on September 10 after a strong weekend against four opponents where she broke multiple career-highs.

Smith and the Saxons will next travel to SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday, October 2 for a 7PM match start.
