SYRACUSE, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming & diving team fell to Division II LeMoyne College, 128-111, on the road Thursday evening despite a record-breaking performance by junior
Christopher Deaver (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley).
Â
Deaver swept the diving events (both 1-meter events) with a score of 311.35 after six dives and a 207.45 following the remaining five dives. He broke his previous school-record (309.90) following the first six dives.
Â
"Chris Deaver picked up his second one meter NCAA regional qualifying score in as many tries and has earned a spot the regional meet in," Head Coach
Brian Striker said. "Because they only have a one-meter board, the divers did a voluntary list and an optional list as two separate scoring events. His optional (6 dives) score of 311.35 gave him a new school record. His total score from both events (11 dives) was 518.80 giving him a new school record as well."

First-year
Noah Koltenuk (Danville, PA/Danville Area) completed the meet with a first-place finish in the 1000-meter freestyle with a time of 10:12.92. He added a second-place finish in the 500 free and third-place in the 200 free with a 5:00.07 and 2:05.66, respectively.
Â
Junior
Ethan Zyglocke (Livonia, NY/Livonia) finished second in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:22.63.
Â
First-year
Yunneng Du (Yorktown, VA/TABB) finished second in both the 50-free (22.45) and 100-free (49.70). Sophomore
Andy Edmister (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley Central) also earned a second-place finish in the 200-backstroke.
Â
The Saxons swept first and second in the opening 400-medley relay. The team of Edmister,
Joseph Lawrence (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence),
Richard Berger (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) and Du earned the gold with a time of 3:38.38. They were followed by the relay team of
Zach Goodwin (Holden, MA/Wachusett), Zyglocke,
Derek Ciraolo (Grand Island, NY/St. Joseph's), and
Ryan Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) with a time of 3:49.70.
Â
"This was our first trip back to LeMoyne since we the men won a meet there by one point after splitting and going 1-2 in the last relay in 2015," Striker said. " We again, came down to the last relay, having to split our relay for a chance to win. This year it didn't end up working on our behalf, but to be in that position is always nerve wrecking and exciting. There were a couple close races where we were out-touched. Considering where we are with training, I was pretty happy with the results across the board. "

The Saxons are back in action on Saturday when they travel to take on Hartwick College at 1PM in Oneonta, NY.
