PITTSFORD, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team fell in Empire 8 action to St. John Fisher College on the road on Saturday, 2-7.
 
The Saxons (1-10, 1-6 Empire 8) were led by the No. 2 singles victory of sophomore Miranda Sakala (Olean, NY/Olean). She topped Fisher's Taylor Slink 6-2, 6-1. The other Alfred University match win was at No. 6 singles when first-year Lauren Boshart (Oswego, NY/Oswego) defeated Caroline Seaberg 7-5, 4-6, 1-0(7).
 
"Once again, we did not play with our full starting lineup," head coach Mike Graham said. "The girls on the team handled some unexpected changes to the lineup very well. I am extremely proud of the effort they put forth today. These athletes have faced many obstacles this season and have handled them so well."
 
The Saxons will next head to The College at Brockport on Monday, October 2 at 4 pm before returning home for their final home match of the 2017 season when they host Roberts Wesleyan College on Wednesday, October 4 at 4 pm on the William T. Brown Tennis Courts.
