ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team lost 6-3 decision to visiting Empire 8 Conference opponent Houghton College Wednesday afternoon.
AU (1-9, 1-5 Empire 8) got two singles wins: from by sophomore
Tori Pellegrino (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) in first singles match, 6-2, 7-6; and sophomore
Amber Smith (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh), 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in fifth singles.
Smith teamed with junior
Inda Gillett (South Kortright, NY/Delaware Academy) to earn the Saxons' other point, taking second doubles, 8-6.
"With not having out full starting lineup today, I was truly pleased with how some of our younger players stepped up today," commented AU head coach
Mike Graham commented.
The Saxons are in action next on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m. at St. John Fisher.
