ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team lost to host University of Rochester Tuesday evening, 4-0.
The Yellowjackets got on the board early as
Geoffery Rouin scored in the ninth minute off the assist from
Josh Cooley. The Saxons (2-4-1, 1-0-1 Empire 8) regrouped defensively, led by seniors
Sam Craver (Great Falls, VA/The Field School) and senior
Jesse Lichtman (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac), to hold Rochester scoreless for the rest of the half.
Rochester came out in the second half strong as
Josh Cooley scored in the 51
st minute off the assist from
Alex Di Perna. Rouin scored his second goal of the contest in the 56
th minute off the feed from
Mitch Volis. The Yellowjackets capped off the scoring in the 66
th minute as
JR Eisold headed the ball off the corner kick from
Stefan Sarkovich.
Sophomore forward
Evan Merkey (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) had Alfred's lone shot on goal.
"This was a very good U of R team that we faced tonight," said head coach
Tracy Blake. "We tried a new formation to try and counter their strength on the wings and the double overtime game and effort against Stevens showed tonight. We will take a slight break tomorrow and be ready for conference play on Saturday at Elmira."
Senior goalie
Chris Gutierrez (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) went the distance in net, making nine saves off 13 shots faced in the loss.
The Saxons continue their road trip this Saturday, September 30
th, as they go head-to-head with Elmira College in conference play at 1 p.m.
