ALFRED, NY – Visiting SUNY Oswego shaded host Alfred University, 5-4, in a non-league women's tennis matchup Wednesday evening.
AU dropped two of three doubles matches before splitting six singles contests. With the loss, the Saxons fall to 0-8 on the season.
Sophomore
Tori Pellegrino (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) paced the Saxons, claiming her first singles match, 6-2, 6-1, and teaming with classmate
Miranda Sakala (Olean, NY/Olean) to take first doubles, 8-4.
Other singles winners for AU were junior
Inda Gillett (South Kortright, NY/Delware Academy), 6-1, 6-4 in second singles; and senior
Beryl Torthe (Pretoria, South Africa/St. Mary's Diocesan), 6-0, 7-6 in fifth singles.

The Saxons are in action next on Saturday, Sept. 23, at noon at Empire 8 opponent Elmira College.
