Empire 8 Play of the Week
ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team swept visiting Keuka College, 3-0 on Tuesday evening in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.

The Saxons 2-10 (0-1 Empire 8) opened their home schedule with set scores of 25-21, 25-19, 25-14 and led the Wolves (2-9, 1-1 NEAC) in every statistical category except tying in digs with 39 for each team. Alfred topped Keuka in points (51.0-30.0), kills (34-21), aces (10-5), blocks (7-4) and assists (31-20).

"They really showed what we were working on all week and that was, do your job," head coach
Dakota "Dak" Pruiss said. "Every single person did their job the entire match and I think that's what pushed the envelope."

Senior
Jacquelynn Hicks (Greenville, NY/Greenville) and sophomore
Amber Smith (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) led the Saxons with 11.5 points each. Smith had a match-high 10 kills and three block assists while Hicks had seven kills and a match-high five block assists while also earning one of the match's two solo blocks.

Smith tied senior
Heather D'Andrea (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) in digs with nine each. Senior
Aubrey Totsline (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had eight while junior
Elisabeth Estep (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had seven. Totsline also led the entire match in assists with 28 of the team's 31 while Estep accounted for the other three. Estep finished the evening with the most aces as she had four with only one error. D'Andrea had three aces and Totsline had two.

D'Andrea chipped in eight kills while senior
Maddison VanEtten (Harpursville, NY/Harpursville Central) had six (and two block assists for 7.0 points). Estep had 4.0 points, Totsline finished with 2.5 from two aces and one block assist and first-year
Sarah Raeman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) rounded out the Saxon scoring with 3.5 points from three kills and one block assist.

"To do that as a first-time head coach, our president was here, our vice president of student affairs was here, it was a great crowd, there was a lot of support from the family from the campus community and to show them and to represent our university in front of them, it's a great feeling," coach Pruiss said.

The Saxons will next travel to Rochester, NY for their first Empire 8 crossover meeting as they take on the host St. John Fisher College at 11am and then are right back in it with The Sage Colleges at 1:30 on Saturday, September 23.
