Volleyball splits at Fisher crossover for first E8 win over Sage

ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team picked up its first Empire 8 Athletic Conference win over The Sage Colleges on Saturday morning, 3-1 during the St. John Fisher College Empire 8 Crossover.
 
The Saxons (3-11, 1-2 Empire 8) fell in four sets to Fisher, 25-20, 14-25, 16-25, 19-25 in the early match before taking the 25-21, 24-26, 25-13, 25-22 winning decision over Sage.
 
Senior Aubrey Totsline (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had 45 set assists against Sage and totaled 74 on the day with her 29 against the Cardinals. Sophomore Amber Smith (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) had 16 kills against the Gators and a total of 9.0 points against Fisher to lead the Saxon scoring effort. Smith also led the Saxons in digs with 14 in the early contest and 17 in the night cap.
 
Senior Jacquelynn Hicks (Greenville, NY/Greenville) scored 13.5 off of 13 kills and one block assist in the Saxons' win. Senior Heather D'Andrea (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) followed with 12.0 points off of eight kills and four service aces. Sophomore Sarah Huzyk (North Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili) also had four points off of serves. D'Andrea scored another two aces in the late match.
 
Both Hicks and D'Andrea finished the first match against St. John Fisher with 10.0 points each. Hicks had nine kills and two block assists while D'Andrea supplemented her two aces with eight kills.
 
The Saxons will next host SUNY Geneseo in a single, non-conference match on Wednesday, September 27 at 7pm.
