NEW YORK, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team picked up its first win of the season with a 3-0 blanking of Purchase College on Saturday morning during a tri-match at Hunter College.

The Saxons (1-10, 0-1 Empire 8) topped Purchase, 25-14, 25-17, 25-15 before dropping a 0-3 decision to the hosts, Hunter College with set scores of 16-25, 17-25, 18-25.

Alfred University was led in scoring during the first match by senior
Jacquelynn Hicks (Greenville, NY/Greenville) who had 16.0 points off of 12 kills, three aces and two block assists. Sophomore
Amber Smith (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) followed with 13.5 points from 12 kills, one ace and one block assist. "Offensively, we did our job," head coach
Dakota "Dak" Pruiss said. "The team hit at a really great clip and we controlled our side of the game."

Senior
Aubrey Totsline (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had another match with 40 or more set assists as she hit the 4-0 mark again in the opening match. The match against Purchase was her 13
th career time hitting 40 assists in a single outing.

On the day, junior
Elisabeth Estep (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) combined both match totals in digs to lead the Saxons with 18. 12 of them came against Hunter. During the match, sophomore
Sarah Huzyk (North Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili) added seven digs, Smith contributed six and first-year
Alex Taylor (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Los Osos) chipped in for three (played one set). "Ibby [Estep] and Alex brought a lot of control for our first ball contact on defense and serve receive," Dak said. "It really helped stabilize what we were trying to do. I think Hunter's defense kept them in system more than we were and that ultimately gave them the edge."

All but one Saxon that played in the first match of the day scored at least one point. Multiple point-scorers included Hicks, Smith, Totsline, first-year
Sarah Raeman (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) with 8.0 points from eight kills, senior
Maddison VanEtten (Harpursville, NY/Harpursville) with 6.0 points from six kills, first-year
Stacey Sereno (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) with 4.5 points from four kills and one block assist.

The Saxons will next host their first match of the season as they welcome in the Wolves of Keuka College on Tuesday, September 19 at 7pm in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena
