Liz Thompson (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) earned her first Empire 8 Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week of her senior season on Monday afternoon.
Thompson broke the school record for career home runs with her shot to left field on Sunday against Utica in the Saxons' Empire 8 season-opener against Utica College. Her home run came in the first inning. Thompson went 5-for-7 on the week as the Saxons split with Clarkson University and swept the Pioneers. She had two doubles and one triple in her 3-for-4 performance in the win against Clarkson during the nightcap as she recorded for RBIs and two runs. In game one of the Utica series, Thompson added a double to her home run and she crossed home plate three times with her perfect 2-for-2 outing. She was intentionally walked twice. She added one run in the closing game on Sunday as well. In the field, Thompson had six putouts and eight assists while only committing one error.
Thompson and the Saxons will next take to the road as they take on the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday evening. The first game of the double header is scheduled to start at 3:00 pm.
