ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team dropped a close 5-4 decision to visiting SUNY Oswego Monday afternoon.
 
The Saxons (3-6) took a pair of singles matches and won two of three doubles contests to fall to 3-6 on the season.
 
Senior Kevin Volz (Olean, NY/Olean) won first singles, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2, while sophomore Peter Smock (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh) took second singles, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.
 
Volz and senior Patrick Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) won first doubles, 8-5, and sophomore Kyle Kemper (Oswego, NY/Oswego) teamed with freshman Jacob Nordin (Ann Arbor, MI/Rudolf Steiner) for an 8-7 win in third doubles.
 
AU is in action next on Wednesday, April 19, at 4 p.m. at Elmira.
