AU cruises past Elmira in Empire 8 men’s lacrosse action

ALFRED, NY – Junior Jake Lynch (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) continued his strong play as he had seven points (six goals, one assist) as the Alfred University men's lacrosse team dominated visiting Elmira College, 21-1, Saturday afternoon at Yunevich Stadium.
 
The Saxons (5-6, 1-4 Empire 8) were clicking as a team as 11 players were able to find the back of the net. Sophomore Kyle Landrigan (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) had a nice game, finishing with five points (two goals, three assist). Seniors Derek Bishopp (Livonia, NY/Livonia) and Nick Skibitsky (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) each had two goals and two assists while junior Brett McMichael (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) helped orchestrate the offensive, finishing with four assists.
 
The Saxons dominated the first quarter of play, scoring eight unanswered goals. The Soaring Eagles' lone goal was scored at the start of the second quarter by Nevin Olney. Alfred took a 12-1 lead into halftime.
 
Sophomores Anthony Ricottilli (Cortland, NY/Cortland) and Allen Vitale (Rochester, NY/Brighton) tallied their first goals of the season, both coming late in the third quarter. Freshman Brendan Connors (Colchester, VT/Colchester) was able to record his first collegiate goal, coming at the 4:38 mark of the fourth quarter.
 
Senior Jimmy Pratti (Slatehill, NY/Minisink Valley) had a stellar game, winning 11-of-13 faceoffs while freshman Garrette Briggs (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) won 10-of-11 faceoffs.
 
Senior Chris Deisenroth (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) led the team defensively, finishing with six ground balls while Pratti, Briggs, Bishopp and Skibitsky had four ground balls apiece.
 
Freshman Shane Weber (Hull, MA/Hull) led the team in caused turnovers with three while Pratti and Skibitsky both finished with two caused turnovers.
 
Four goalies saw action today with junior Drew Gardner (Whitney Point, NY/Whitney Point) earning the win. Junior Chris Doktor (Irondequoit, NY/Eastridge) made four saves on four shots faced, sophomore Brandon Smith (Queens, NY/The Governor's Academy) made one save on one shot faced and junior Chris Bucciarelli (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) gave up the lone goal while making two saves.

Saturday was also the Saxons' senior day in which Bishopp, Skibitsky, McMichael, Pratti, Deisenroth, Rob Ensmenger (Old Bethpage, NY/Plainview - Old Bethpage JFK), Patrick DuPree (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post East), Kyle Richey (East Syracuse, NY/Henninger), Eric Kwietniewski (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) and Nathan Bellis (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy).
 
Alfred has the week off and resumes play next Saturday, April 22nd, as they play at Ithaca College at 12 p.m.
