ALFRED, NY – Visiting Hartwick rallied from an early 10-point deficit to claim an 86-69 win over the Alfred University women's basketball team in an Empire 8 Conference contest Saturday afternoon in the Galanis Family Arena.
Alfred (2-18, 0-11 E8) led 26-16 at the end of the first quarter before Hartwick rallied. The visiting Hawks took the lead late in the second quarter and went into the half up 44-32. Hartwick outscored AU 42-37 after the break and improved to 14-7 overall and 10-2 in E8 play.
First-year guard
Jamie Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) connected in nine of 17 shots, including six of 11 from three-point range, and scored a game-high 26 points to go with five steals and a pair of assists. The 26 points were a new career high for Wilcox, eclipsing the 23 she scored in November against Hilbert.
Senior forward
Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) scored 16 points and first-year guard
Demetria Woodard (Macedon, NY/Rueben Cirillo) added 11 points and five rebounds. Sophomore guard
Katlyn Boland (New York, NY/ A. Phillip Randolph) had seven rebounds, 10 assists and a pair of steals to go with three points.
Hartwick, which shot 50 percent from the floor (40 percent on three pointers: 12-of-30), was led by
Emily Stone's 20 points and five assists.
Caitlin Corbett had 14 points and six rebounds and
Sarah Shaw and
Courtney Cirillo added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Alfred is in action next on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 6 p.m. at St. John Fisher.
