ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University men's basketball team was able to complete the season sweep of Ithaca College by the score of 85-77 Friday evening at the Galanis Family Arena.
Sophomore guard
Dom LaMorta (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glennville) went 8-for-12 (75%) from the floor while knocking down four of his eight shot attempts from beyond the arc. Junior guard
Nick Schmidt (Olean, NY/Olean) also had an efficient night as he went 5-for-9 from the field and 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. Junior Forward
Dalton Cousin (Sherrill, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) led the team in rebound as he finshed with eight.
LeMorta and
Schmidt fueled the Saxons (8-11, 5-5 Empire 8) as they went on a 22-9 to put Alfred out front for good. First-year guard
Sam Dagon (Hornell, NY/Hornell) put the game on ice ask he knocked down both of his free throw attempts in the final seconds of the game.
The Saxons took advantage of the paint as they outscored the Bombers, 34-24. Both teams had almost identical shooting percentages with Ithaca shooting 44.8% (26-for-58) and Alfred shooting 45.2% (28-for-62).
The Bombers were led offensively by Riley Thompson with 21 points and three assisted. Sebastian Alderete chipped in 16 points and Peter Ezema scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
The Saxons are in action tomorrow, February 4
th, as they take on the visiting Hartwick Hawks at 4 p.m.
