ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team dropped a 63-51 decision to visiting Ithaca College Friday evening in the Galanis Family Arena.
Alfred (2-17, 0-10 E8) trailed by just two points (16-14) after one quarter, and led by two points (24-22) before the Bombers went on a 6-0 run over the final minute to take a 28-24 lead into halftime. Ithaca (17-3, 9-2 E8) outscored the Saxons 20-15 in the third to take a nine-point lead into the fourth.
The Bombers held a double-digit lead for most of the final frame, outscoring the Saxons 15-12. AU held a 39-32 rebounding edge, but was hurt by turnovers. The Saxons had 29 miscues, with 15 coming in the second half.
Senior forward
Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) led Alfred with a game-high 19 points to go with five rebounds. First-year forward
Bri Hicks (Slaterville Springs, NY/Ithaca) had 10 points and three rebounds, while first-year guard
Jamie Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) had 10 points, six assists and a pair of steals.
Ali Ricchiuti netted 16 points to pace Ithaca.
Julie Yacovoni had eight points and a game-high eight rebounds and
Cassie O'Malley added 13 points and three boards.
Alfred is in action next on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. at home against Hartwick.
