ALFRED, NY – Visiting Stevens defeated the Alfred University women's basketball team, 90-65, Friday evening in the Galanis Family Arena.
Alfred (2-19, 0-13 E8) trailed 50-30 at the half, as the visiting Ducks shot 64 percent from the floor (21-for-33) in the first two periods and outrebounded the Saxons, 23-12. Senior forward
Amanda Off (Nee Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) led Alfred with 13 first-half points as the Saxons connected on all eight of their free-throw attempts.
Stevens cooled down from the floor after intermission, shooting 48 percent (16-of-35), and outscored AU by just five points (40-35) over the final two frames. With the win, the Ducks improve to 12-9 overall, 11-2 in Empire 8 Conference play.
Off finished with a game-high 23 points and pulled down a team-leading six rebounds to pace Alfred. Senior guard
Maddi Flint (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) had 15 points, four rebounds and four assists and first-year guard
Jaime Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) chipped in with 11 points, three assists and three steals.
Stevens connected on eight three-point shots, with
Elena Sanchez hitting four and finishing with 12 points.
Brooke Stoddard netted a team-high 13 points and
Daphne Ginn had nine points to go with a game-high nine rebounds.
Alfred is in action next on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m., when the Saxons play their home finale against Utica College.
