Hicks Scores Career-High 17 Points as Alfred Falls on the Road to Geneseo

GENESEO, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team lost to host SUNY Geneseo, 68-34 Tuesday evening at the Schrader Gymnasium.
 
The Saxons (1-4, 0-0 Empire 8) were led by sophomore forward Bri Hicks (Burlington, VT/Ithaca) as she set a career-high in points with 17. Hicks also led the team in rebounds with seven (three offense, four defense). Junior forward Katlyn Boland (New York, NY/A. Phillip Randolph) orchestrated the offense, finishing with four assists. Sophomore guard Niasia Boyd (Rankin, PA/Propel Andrew Street) added nine points off the bench.
 
Hicks got the game started with the drive in the paint for the layup off the feed from Boland. Alyssa Lesakowski answered with a layup of her own to tie the game at 2-2 just under a minute into the game. The Knights scored the games next four points before sophomore guard Jamie Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) made her layup attempt to cut the lead to two with 4:18 remaining in the first quarter. Geneseo would stretch its lead to four again before Boyd converted her and-one opportunity to make it a 10-7 game with 2:11 to go in the quarter. Geneseo's lead grew to five before Hicks knocked down her jump shot to make it 12-9 with under a minute to go. Sara Ciotti closed out the scoring in the first as she converted her and-one opportunity to make it 15-9.
 
The Knights were led offensively by Ciotti as she finished with 15 points with Lindsay Halpin adding 10 points. Natalie Alfieri led the team in rebounds with seven, respectively.
 
The Saxons are off until next Thursday, December 7, as they host La Roche College at 7 PM.
