BROCKPORT, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team fell to The College at Brockport, 83-64 Friday evening during the first day of the Brockport Tipoff Classic.

"It was a great test for us early on in the season," said Head Coach Monique McLean. "I thought we came out very strong but struggled defensively in the second and third quarters. Being a young team, we will have to do a better job of in-game adjustments and we will."
Wilcox got the scoring going early and often for the Saxons, as she scored a layup just eight seconds into the new season. Trailing early, Wilcox knocked down the three-point attempt, giving the slight edge back to Alfred, 5-4. With two minutes remaining in the first quarter, Wilcox was able to convert the fast break layup, giving Alfred the 13-9 advantage. First-year guard Lyndsey McCoy (Middleburgh, NY/Middleburgh Central) would push the Saxon lead to five before the Golden Eagles ended the quarter on a 5-0 run.
Brockport opened up the second quarter on 5-0 run before first-year guard Amanda Figeroa (Cypress Hill, TX/Rosehill Christian) was able to cut the lead to three after knocking down the jump shot with 6:55 remaining in the half. Brockport would push the lead back to five after a Lindsay Johnson layup. The Saxons would again cut the lead to three off the jump shot from Wilcox with 5:31 remaining in the half.
Wilcox led the team in assists with three while Boland lead the team in steals with two. Sophomore forward Bri Hicks (Burlington, VT/Ithaca) lead the team in blocks with two while also grabbing six boards.
The Golden Eagles were led by Johnson with 19 points while Julianna Taylor and Bailey Pratt both had 17 points. Johnson also led the team in rebounds with 12 to complete the double-double.
The Saxons held the advantage in points off turnovers, 11-8 and also in points score in the paint, 38-34. The Golden Eagles held the edge in bench points, 19-14.
The Saxons will next play against Hamilton College on November 18 at 4 PM in the second day of the Brockport Tipoff Tournament.
