MENDON, NY – The Alfred University women's tennis team ended their regular season with a 2-7 loss on the road at Nazareth College on Saturday afternoon at the Mendon Racquet Club.

The Saxons (1-12, 1-7 Empire 8) picked up one win in doubles and one in singles. The No. 1 doubles team of junior
Inda Gillette (South Kortright, NY/Delaware Academy Central) and sophomore
Amber Smith (Prattsburgh, NY/Prattsburgh Central) defeated Nazareth's Maelah Nadeau and Erin Schantz, 8-3. Senior
Beryl Torthe (Pretoria, South Africa/St. Mary's Diocesan-South Africa) topped Jackie Lisak at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0 as well. "I'm extremely happy with our only senior, Beryl, who ended her collegiate career with a four-match singles win streak," head coach

"We held our own in doubles, playing very aggressive at the net and even taking a win at first doubles," Coach Graham said. "This season has been a tremendous learning experience and I am truly grateful this was my first team to coach."

Besides Torthe's singles win streak of four, Smith and Gillett won four of their last five doubles matches together. Sophomore
Tori Pellegrino (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) won three of her last four singles matches as well.
