ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team was edged out by Nazareth College Saturday afternoon, 1-0 at Golden Flyer Stadium.
The Golden Flyers (7-4-1, 3-1-0 Empire 8) got in the scoring column early as
Josh Crespo was able to dribble through the Saxons defense in the fourth minute of action.
The Saxons (3-7-1, 2-1-1 Empire 8) got scoring opportunities from junior defender
Brennan Jelstrom (Loudonville, NY/Shaker) who led the team with two shots on goal with three other Saxons with one shot on goal.
"Lost a hard fought contest today in the E8 against Nazareth," said head coach
Tracy Blake. "After going a goal down early we just didn't get going and although we fought hard to get something out of the game, it was not on today. We are going into the week with the knowledge that we need to get a positive result against Houghton on Saturday."
Nazareth held the slight advantage in shots with 15 (seven on goal) while Alfred had 13 shots (five on goal). Nazareth also had the edge in corner kicks, 3-2.
Senior goalie
Chris Gutierrez (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) made six saves on seven shots face in picking up the loss.
Brian Wilkin went the distance in net for the Golden Flyers, making five saves in the win.
The Saxons are next in action on October 14
th, as they host Houghton College at 1 p.m. This will begin a four-game home stand for the Saxons.
