Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

New rivalry begins as Alfred falls to Sage in conference action

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team fell to the newly acquired Empire 8 member, The Sage Colleges, Saturday evening, 3-0 on Senior Night.

The Saxons (4-9-1, 3-2-1 Empire 8) played solid defense in the first half, led by senior brothers Kyle Craver (Great Falls, NY/The Field School) and Sam Craver (Great Falls, NY/The Field School), as they kept River Seybolt in check. Seybolt broke Sage's career goals scored Wednesday evening in a loss to Ithaca College.

Seybolt started the scoring for the Gators (8-5-1, 3-2-2 Empire 8) as they capitalized on the penalty in the 47th minute. Seybolt then scored again in the 78th minute. To round out the scoring for Sage, Seybolt found Griffin Goodemote in the 88th minute.

"A handball early in the second half gave Sage the penalty shot and we didn't recover," Head Coach Tracy Blake said. "I thought we had plenty of good opportunities in the first and second half to score. A positive result against St. John Fisher College next Saturday still gets us into the playoffs."

Sage held the slight advantage in shots attempted with 14 (seven on goal) to Alfred's 13 (five on goal). Alfred held the edge in corner kicks, 9-6.

Senior goalkeeper Chris Gutierrez (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) made three saves on six shots faced in the loss. Mike Chiaravalloti went the distance in net for the Gators, making five saves.

During pregame ceremonies, seniors Gutierrez, Cody Cronmiller (Livonia, NY/Livonia), Jesse Lichtman (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac), Miguel Reyes (Valencia, Venezuela/La Salle), Kade McGarrity (Angola, NY/Lake Shore Central) and the Cravers were all honored for their time spent in the purple and gold as they were escorted by their families to mid-pitch.

The Saxons will next end their four-game home stand as they face No. 14 Buffalo State on Tuesday, October 24th at 4 pm and then head to St. John Fisher College next Saturday, October 28th, to close out the regular season.
