ALFRED, NY -- Sophomore linebacker
Nick Milgate (Hilton, NY/Hilton) of the Alfred University football team was selected as the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon following a dominant, defensive performance on Saturday against Buffalo State in Yunevich Stadium.
Milgate broke collegiate career-highs in assisted tackles, total tackles and sacks. He finished the game with 10 total tackles. Six of his tackles were assisted. He managed to break through the Bengals' offensive line for two sacks which resulted in a total loss of 16 yards and his first sack was also a forced fumble, recovered by Buffalo State's Kyle Hoppy and resulting in the turnover on downs. A.J. LiCata (Lake View, NY/Frontier) tipped up a pass from Buffalo State in which Milgate, managed to get under for his second interception in consecutive weeks.
Milgate and the Saxons will next head to Rochester, NY to take on Empire 8 rival, St. John Fisher College on Saturday, October 14 at 1 pm.
