ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's soccer team fell to visiting Montclair State University, 7-1 Tuesday evening at Yunevich Stadium.

The Saxons (4-8-1, 3-2-1) trailed the Red Hawks in the closing minutes of the first half, 2-0, before junior midfielder
Adam Taylor (Newton, NJ/Sussex County Technical) sent his pass across the field where first-year
Zachary Gloskin (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) was able to collect the ball and put it in the back of the net in the 42
nd minute of action. The Red Hawks would then score five, unanswered goals to close out the game.

"It was a tough game as we started out a little slow," said head coach
Tracy Blake. "We were able to get back on track and had some opportunities in the first 10 minutes of the second half but didn't capitalize on them. We had many first-years play in this contest and I thought this was a great learning experience for them."

Montclair State held the advantage in shots attempted with 21 (10 on goal) while Alfred was more accurate with their shot selection as five shots were on goal out of seven. The Saxons held the edge in corner kicks, 6-4.

Senior goalkeeper
Chris Gutierrez (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) made three saves on seven shots faced.Â
Mike Saalfrank picked up the win for the Red Hawks, making three saves on four shots faced in 75 minutes of action.
Taylor Culp went the rest of the way, making one save.

The Saxons enter the back-end of their four-game home stand as they face The Sage Colleges on Saturday, October 21
st, at 5 pm for their senior game. This will also be Alfred's pink game.
