Dives of the Week
ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming and diving team fell to visiting LeMoyne College, 165-125, Saturday afternoon in Lebohner Pool, in the Saxons' final dual meet of the 2016-17 season.
Freshman
Andy Edmister (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley) and sophomore
Gabriel Smith (Campbell, NY/Campbell-Savona) each won two events to pace the Saxons. Edmister won the 50-yard backstroke (25.65) and 100-yard backstroke (55.17), while Smith swept the diving events, taking 1-meter diving with 202.40 points and the 3-meter event with 180.45 points.
Junior
Alec Toth (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) and sophomore
Richard Berger (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) earned Alfred's other individual event wins. Toth took the 200 freestyle in 1:49.41 and also placed second in the 200 individual medley (2:04.87), while Berger won the 50-yard breaststroke (27.90) and took second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.41).
Other top performers for the AU men included senior
Patrick Brown (Olean, NY/Olean), second in the 50 freestyle (23.21), and junior
Joseph Lawrence (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence), second in the 100 free (50.20) and 50 butterfly (24.84).
The Saxons' team of Edmister, Berger, Lawrence and Brown won the 200 medley relay in 1:39.46. Junior
Derek Ciraolo (Grand Island, NY/St. Joseph's), Brown, Toth and Edmister placed second in the 200 free relay (1:32.06).
The AU men now prepare for the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association (UNYSCSA)/Empire 8 Conference championship meet, Feb. 15-18, at Ithaca College.
