ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team fell to visiting Empire 8 Conference foe Elmira College, 64-52, Thursday evening in the Galanis Family Arena.
 
Alfred (2-14, 0-7 E8) trailed 33-18 at the half, but closed to within seven points late in the third and trailed 47-38 heading into the final frame. The Saxons could get no closer than seven points (50-43, 7:24 of the fourth) the rest of the way against an Elmira team that improved to 5-8 overall, 2-3 in league play.
 
First-year guard Jamie Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) scored team-high 16 points and pulled down four rebounds to lead Alfred. First-year guard Niasia Boyd (Rankin, PA/Propel Andrew Street) added 10 points, five rebounds and three steals, while senior forward Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) had nine points and five rebounds and first-year guard Demetria Woodard (Macedon, NY/Rueben A. Cirillo) netted seven points and six boards.
 
Danielle Cleary led Elmira with 19 points and four assists. Lauren Franklin had 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds and Lindsey Heaton has 12 points to go with six rebounds.
 
Alfred is in action next on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m. when the Saxons host Empire 8 foe Houghton College.
