ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team lost to visiting Houghton College, 69-51, in an Empire 8 Conference contest Thursday evening in the Galanis Family Arena.
 
Alfred (2-15, 0-8 E8) led by six at the half, 30-24, behind 12 points from first-year guard 
Jamie Wilcox (Forestville, NY/Pine Valley) and nine from senior forward 
Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley). 
 
Houghton stormed back after intermission, outscoring the Saxons 22-10 in the third to take a 46-40 lead heading into the final frame. The visiting Highlanders shot 46 percent from the floor in the fourth (six of 13) and a perfect 10-of-10 from the foul line to pull away late. With the win, Houghton improved to 9-9 (3-6 E8).
 
Wilcox finished with a game-high 20 points, with three rebounds and three steals, to pace AU. Off had nine points and eight rebounds, while first-year guard 
Demetria Woodard (Macedon, NY/Rueben A. Cirillo) added 10 points and three boards.
 
Laurie Call (seven rebounds, six assists, three steals) and
 Hannah Manwaring (nine rebounds, four steals) each scored 16 points to lead Houghton.
 
Alfred is in action next on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. at Empire 8 foe Nazareth.
