Coach Striker's Alumni Event Speech
ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's swimming and diving team fell to Empire 8 foe, Hartwick College on Saturday afternoon, 89.5-198.5 in Lebohner Pool.

The Saxons picked up an early win in the first race, the 200 yard medley relay, with the team of freshman
Andy Edmister (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley Central), sophomore
Richard Berger (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz), junior
Joseph Lawrence (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) and senior
Patrick Brown (Olean, NY/Olean). The team swam a 1:39.55, edging out the Hawks' "A" team which finished with a 1:40.35.

Junior
Alec Toth (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) was the lone individual winner for Alfred University during the 200 yard freestyle as he finished with a 1:50.16.

Lawrence had a strong showing in both the 100 yard freestyle (50.62) and the 100 fly (53.64) as he claimed second place in both events. Sophomore
Gabriel Smith (Campbell, NY/Campbell-Savona) earned two second place finishes on the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards with scores of 174.80 and 163.20, respectively.

Edmister edged out his older brother, Brian, of Hartwick in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.31 (Brian swam a 55.47) to earn his second place finish. He then earned second place in the 50 free with a time of 23.60 before his brother got revenge in the 200 breast as the Hawk took first (2:00.84) and the Saxon finished fourth (2:05.11).

Derek Ciraolo (Grand Island, NY/St. Joseph's), Toth and Lawrence took second with a time of 1:32.80 to close out the day.

Saturday's meet was also Alfred's alumni day as the stands were filled with past Saxons, followed by a recognition dinner in the Joyce and Walton Family Center for Health and Wellness.

The Saxons will next travel to Ithaca College for their last away dual meet of the 2016-17 season on Saturday, January 21 at 1:00 pm.
