Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Off records double-double in loss to Utica

UTICA, NY -  Senior forward Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) went 14-for-20 from the field as she finished with 29 points and 13 rebounds in the Alfred University women's basketball team's 69-55 Empire 8 Conference loss at  Utica College Tuesday evening.
 
Off started the scoring with the game's first basket off the assist from first-year guard Jamie Wilcox (Forestville, NY/ Pine Valley). Alfred went on a 9-2 run as Wilcox's three-pointer gave the Saxons an 11-6 lead at the halfway point of the first quarter. A three-pointer by first-year guard Jessica Wilcox (Forestville, NY/ Pine Valley) gave the Saxons a 20-16 advantage after one quarter of play.

The Saxons (2-11, 0-4 Empire 8) started the second period with two quick baskets by Off and first-year guard Demetria Woodard (Macedon, NY/Rueben A. Cirillo) to extend the Alfred's lead to eight. The Pioneers then went on an 11-0 run as Marissa Woods drained a three to give Utica a 27-26 lead halfway through the second quarter. Before the half concluded, first-year guard Katlyn Boland (New York, NY/A. Phillip Randolph) set up Off with the three-point shot which cut the deficit to one (37-35) heading into intermission.
 
Both teams came into the second half trading buckets before Alfred took a five-point lead on a basket from first-year forward Bri Hicks (Slaterville Springs, NY/Ithaca), who finished the game with 10 points. Utica responded with a 17-2 run to close out the third and take a 57-47 lead heading into the final frame. Utica outscored Alfred 12-8 in the fourth period to secure the win.
 
Ashlyne Babb paced the Pioneers with 25 points, while Ashley Mayo chipped in 16.
 
Alfred was active on the offensive glass as they dominated in second chance points, 23-5, while Utica had the advantage in paint scoring, 44-30.
 
The Saxons are in action next on Friday, Jan. 13, at 6 p.m.at Hartwick.
