ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team fell to Ithaca College during its home-opener at the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena Tuesday evening in Empire 8 action, 1-3.

Saxons (7-10, 1-2 Empire 8) managed to earn a first set win, 25-23 over the Bombers, who are receiving national ranking votes from the AVCA.
Ithaca (13-4, 3-1 Empire 8) then won the next three sets, 25-15, 25-14 and 25-14.

The Saxons only had one player in double-digit scoring in first year
Amber Smith (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) who had 16 kills and one ace for 17.0 points. Smith led both the Saxons and Bombers in the kills category. She added seven digs.

Jacquelynn Hicks (Greenville, NY/Greenville) had six kills, one ace and two assisted blocks for a team-second 8.0 points. Fellow junior
Heather D'Andrea (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) had a team-high nine digs while finishing third in points with 7.0 off of five kills and two aces.

Aubrey Totsline (Fairport, NY/Fairport) led the match in assists with 28 despite the Bombers totaling 44 set assists while the Saxons only had 30. Totsline added two aces and eight digs.

The Saxons will next travel to Keuka Park to take on the Wolves of Keuka College in a solo, non-conference match on Wednesday, October 5 at 7:00 pm.
