KEUKA PARK, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team was able to earn wins in the second and third set in its non-conference match against host Keuka College but fell in five on Wednesday evening.
The
Saxons (7-11, 1-2 Empire 8) fell 15-25, 26-24, 24-20, 14-25 and 7-15 against the Wolves in a solo match.
Junior captain
Heather D'Andrea (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) and first year
Amber Smith (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) led the Saxons in kills with 11 apiece. D'Andrea added five aces (season-high) and one assisted block for 16.5 points. Smith chipped in with three aces, bringing her point total to 14.0.
Junior
Aubrey Totsline (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had 30 set assists, making this her ninth match this season with 30 or more in a match.
D'Andrea also led the Saxons in digs with 11 and was followed by Smith and sophomore
Elisabeth Estep (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) who both had nine.
The Saxons will next head to Utica College for an Empire 8 crossover between the host Pioneers and the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College on Saturday, October 8 at 1:30 pm (Nazareth) and 4:00 pm (Utica).
