ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's soccer defeated visiting Penn College Wednesday night by the score of 1-0.
 
The Saxons (5-2,0-0 Empire 8) scored early in the game at the 13^th minute mark when first-year midfielder Amanda Roberts (Amherst, NY/Amherst) took advantage of the penalty kick.
 
The Saxons dominated the Wildcats in shots, 17-7, as well as having the advantage in corner kicks, 5-2.
 
Junior goalie Sammy Jo Shanahan (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) earned the victory while making one save. Colleen Bowes earned the loss for the Wildcats. She allowed the lone goal and made nine saves on the night.
 
Alfred is in action this Sunday, September 25, at 1 p.m. as they play host to Smith College.
