POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team split on the last day of the Vassar College Tournament, taking a 3-0 win over Purchase College but dropping three to Vassar.
Heather D'Andrea (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) led the
Saxons (4-4, 0-0 Empire 8) to the win over Purchase College in three sets. The junior had 10 kills, four aces and added six digs on the day. The Saxons tripled the amount of kills for the match, totaling 33 to Purchase's 11.
Junior
Jacquelynn Hicks (Greenville,NY/Greenville) had 11 kills while senior captain,
Mary Lou Patnaude (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Spa) had six.
Junior setter
Aubrey Totsline (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had a team-high six aces while sophomore
Elisabeth Estep (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had five.
Estep had two aces and 10 digs in the later match against the hosts, Vassar. She added two aces.
The Saxons will next head to the St. John Fisher College Tournament on Friday, September 16 to square off against Penn State Behrend at 5:00 pm and Allegheny College at 7:00 pm.
