PITTSFORD, NY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team dropped three matches between Friday and Saturday during the St. John Fisher College Tournament but topped D'Youville in four sets.

The Saxons (5-7, 0-0 Empire 8) claimed one set win against Penn State-Behrend on Friday but then took Allegheny College to five sets, falling in the first-to-15 set. Behrend earned the win with scores of 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 27-25 while Allegheny to the W with scores of 25-16, 19-25, 24-26, 25-15, 15-10.

Baldwin Wallace swept the Saxons during the early match on Saturday with scores of 25-11, 25-12, 25-12.

First year hitter
Amber Smith (Penfield, NY/Webster Schroeder) was selected to the All-Tournament Team. She totaled 50 kills in the four matches. She tacked on three service aces and 52 digs. Smith had four assisted blocks and a solo against Allegheny on her way to a 20.0-point performance in that match alone (17 kills and two aces combined with the blocks) and added two more assisted blocks against D'Youville.

Junior hitters
Heather D'Andrea (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) and
Jacquelynn Hicks (Greenville, NY/Greenville) both had double-digit figures in kills against Allegheny with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. D'Andrea added three aces while Hicks totaled five assisted blocks and one solo.

Junior setter
Aubrey Totsline (Fairport, NY/Fairport) led the Saxons in set assists with 40 against Penn State-Behrend, 35 against Allegheny and 15 against Baldwin Wallace. She, like D'Andrea, had three aces against Allegheny.

The Saxons will next have two solo matches before they open Empire 8 match play at the Hartwick College Empire 8 Crossover on Saturday, September 24. They take on SUNY Geneseo on the road on Wednesday, September 21 at 7:00 pm and then SUNY-Delhi on Friday, September 23 at 7:00 pm as well. Friday's match will be played at the Delaware Academy High School.
