LEXINGTON, KY – The Alfred University women's volleyball team has earned a spot on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic list on Monday.
Â
The Saxons were joined by five other members of the Empire 8 Conference (six including Sage College who will officially join the Empire8 in the Fall of 2017). Those institutions were Elmira College, Houghton College, Ithaca College, St. John Fisher College and Stevens Institute of Technology.
Â
In order to qualify your team for the AVCA Team Academic Award, all of the student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. The award was first installed during the 1992-93 academic year and this year, between NCAA Division I, II and III as well as NAIA, two-year college women, NCCAA Women, Collegiate Men, High School Girls and Boys and Beach, there were a total of 757 teams honored. The team total is an all-time high for the AVCA.
Â
The Saxons will begin their 2016 season at the SUNY Cortland Tournament on Friday, September 2 with a 5pm match against Buffalo State. Alfred University graduated three seniors last year, return six starters and have brought in five first year student-athletes as well.
