ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men's tennis team claimed an 8-1 Empire 8 Conference victory over visiting Utica College Saturday afternoon.
 
The Saxons swept doubles play and won five of six singles matches to improve to 5-12 on the season, 2-3 in conference play.
 
In first doubles, seniors Connor Doud (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) and Matt Baloga (Goshen, NY/Goshen) earned an 8-0 win. Junior Patrick Brown (Olean, NY/Olean) and senior Kevin Volz (Olean, NY/Olean) won second doubles, 8-5, while sophomore Mike Wisniewski (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville East) and freshman Kyle Kemper (Oswego, NY/Oswego) took third doubles, 8-0.
 
In singles play, Doud won first singles, 6-2, 6-2; Wisnewski won second singles, 6-4, 6-4; Volz took fourth singles, 6-1, 6-1; Brown earned the win in fifth singles, 6-0, 6-0; and Kemper claimed his sixth singles matchup,6-2, 6-1.
 
The Saxons play next on Friday, April 29, at 4 p.m. in an Empire 8 clash with Houghton.
