ALFRED, NY—Senior
Rachel Ball (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) scored three goals in a 14-3 win over visiting Loras College Wednesday evening, surpassing her career-high mark.
In addition to the hat trick by Ball, sophomore
Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) scored a hat trick, and continued her hot streak to 13 goals over four games. Junior
Tracy Johnston (Akron, NY/Akron) scored twice in the game while five Saxons scored one goal each. The Duhawks were led by Kaitlyn Kutsch with two goals.
Freshman
Morgan Timmerman (Cortland, NY/Cortland) served up the lone assist in the game.
Loras (2-3) was the first team on the board in the matchup, earning a goal in the opening minute. However, the Saxons rattled off three goals in a row over the course of five minutes. The Duhawks scored back-to-back goals in the 12
th minute, but were unable to find the net for the remainder of the game. AU scored 11 goals in a row down the final 48 minutes of the game, shutting out Loras in the second half.
Senior
Kerry Mack (Weedsport, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) led the Saxons with six ground balls while Gilbert notched five in the game. Junior
Leah Ellithorpe (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) chimed in with four ground balls of her own while leading AU with three caused turnovers along with senior
Brianna Dudick (Somers, NY/Somers).
The Duhawks were paced on defense by Nia Stompanato with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Sophomore
Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) played all 60 minutes in goal making four saves on seven shots faced. Ashley McGee played in net for the Duhawks, making 15 saves on 29 shots faced.
AU dominated play, out shooting Loras 42-9 and putting more shots on goal (29-7). Additionally, the Saxons converted 17-of-18 clear attempts and corralled 32 ground balls compared to Loras' 19.
After advancing to 4-4 (E8 0-0) the Saxons are off to their best eight-game start since 2012 where AU finished 4-10. Next, the Saxons move into Empire 8 play when they travel to St. John Fisher College to take on the Cardinals at 4PM on Friday.
