WILKES-BARRE, PA—Sophomore
Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) continued on her tear of late, scoring four goals in a 13-7 loss on the road to Wilkes University, marking 10 goals in three games for the young attack player.
Juniors
Hayley Katz (Bridewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) and
Megan Wendt (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) along with freshman
Olivia Cronmiller (Livonia, NY/Livonia) rounded out the scoring with a goal each against the Colonels (6-2, MAC, 0-0). Madeleine Brownsey led Wilkes with six goals.
Freshman
Morgan Timmerman (Cortland, NY/Cortland) had the lone assist for the Saxons in the matchup.
With only 11:45 left in the first half AU (3-4, E8 0-0) tied Wilkes 2-2 after falling down 2-0 in the opening 10 minutes. However, the Colonels pulled ahead with back-to-back goals heading into the half time break.
Brownsey added two more goals in the opening minute in the second half before Katz broke the run with her first goal of the season. Wilkes outscored the Saxons 7-4 down the stretch to earn their sixth win of the year.
Senior
Kerry Mack (Weedsport, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) and sophomore
Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) led AU with four ground balls each. Mack, Wendt and Cronmiller had one caused turnover each.
The Saxons turn around tomorrow to take on Loras College at home in Yunevich Stadium at 7PM during their season opener.
