Saxons Win Second Game In A Row, 16-4

Gilbert sets career-best in goals

BUFFALO, NY—Sophomore Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, NY/Watertown) scored a career-best five goals in a 16-4 nonconference win over Hilbert College on the road Thursday afternoon.
 
Juniors Rachel Ball (Corfu, NY/Pembroke), Megan Wendt (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and Tracy Johnston (Akron, NY/Akron) along with freshman Morgan Timmerman (Cortland, NY/Cortland) netted two goals each. Senior Kerry Mack (Weedsport, NY/Jordan-Elbridge), junior Leah Ellithorpe (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) and freshman Olivia Cronmiller (Livonia, NY/Livonia) added a goal each to round out the scoring. Cronmiller supplied the only two assists in the game.
 
The Hawks were led by Nikki Schneider with two goals in the game.
 
Ellithorpe and sophomore Emily MacWilliams (Geneva, NY/Waterloo) led the Saxons (2-2, E8 0-0) with five and four groundballs, respectively. Ellithorpe paced AU with three draw controls while Gilbert led the Saxons with two caused turnovers in the game.
 
AU jumped out to a 6-0 lead midway through the first half with Gilbert racking up two goals in that time. By the half-time intermission, the Saxons created a comfortable cushion with a 12-2 advantage.
 
In the second half, AU scored four times to the Hawks two goals, closing out the game 16-4.
 
Sophomore Shannon Gray (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) played all 60 minutes for the Saxons making five saves. Allison Austin played the entire game in goal for the Hawks, posting a six-save game.
 
The Saxons are in action again on Saturday when they travel to Utica, NY to take on the SUNY IT Wildcats at  1PM .
